    Default Gas Powered Bicycle ?

I'm going to be purchasing one in about 2 weeks...

I'm an avid cyclist, on road and off road.
I see it as a faster method of transportation and also cheaper.
City Transit costs $2.25 ONE WAY... $2.50 in gas will take me around town a dozen times...

Winter is coming, my asthma gets worse...
So does the pain from the cold....

What is your opinion on this?

I have a question. Do you have to have a license for this? Just wondering because I was driving on Gt. Northern Rd the other day and a guy on a very small vespa type motorized vehicle, was driving to the right side of the lane as a regular bike would. There was no license plate on it. My husband and I were wondering about this. It's funny- you can be charged for impaired in a paddle boat, but you can drive a motorized vehicle on the road and not have any licensing. Of course, I can't be bothered to look up all the rules and regulations that don't apply to me, but I'm just curious.

Are you sure that was not an E-bike? E-bikes do not need a license of insurance. A gas motorized bike DOES need a license and insurance...

Electric bikes are regulated in that they are limited to a 500 Watt electric motor and they cannot be faster than around 32 KM per hour. All the rules of the road that pertain to bicycles pertain to electric bikes.

    Sorry Bluesky, you don't!

A friend of mine has one and has been stopped by police twice being asked what the motor size was and how fast it went. They informed him that they are permitted on our roads without license providing we wear a helmet and obey traffic rules.

You can't get it insured as a motor vehicle as it is a modified bicycle that still functions as a regular bicycle

You plan on riding it in the winter? My 2wd Ford 1/2 ton had a hard time in the snow and slush.

    19. Why are LSM and moped operators required to be licensed but operators of scooter-style e-bikes are not?

For the purposes of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), e-bikes are considered bicycles and therefore do not require operators to be licensed.

Furthermore, the maximum speed of a limited-speed motorcycle (LSM) is 70 km/h and for a moped is 50 km/h compared to an e-bike, which can reach a maximum speed of only 32 km/h. Primarily because of the higher level of speed that can be reached, the ministry is requiring operators of limited-speed motorcycles and mopeds to participate in the provincial graduated licensing system while operating these motor vehicles, in order to ensure road safety for Ontarians.

The MTO doesn't enforce on a regular basis. THE CITY POLICE DO.
If its ok by the city police, then its ok by me

When seatbelts became law, the medical system had an immediate shortage of transplant organs.

I believe these low speed bikes will help to relieve the problem.

I had a motorized bike, just monuted it on my bike and a way i went. bought it for 200 shipped. I sold it along with the bike it was on. I phoned city police and he told me anything UNDER 50cc would not require licsense , insurance, registration,or lights in front or back. Anything over 50 cc u need a M1 licsense.
Just what ever you do don't get water or moisture in the coil,or magneto.
PM me what you have in mind. I have some info maybe you could use.
    That's what she said !

My Mom has a E-Bike, she uses it at camp mostly, where its not so busy, Im not to sure if she has had it out in town, i am a motor cycle driver, and i think there should be some time of test they have to pass, or atleast follow the same rules as a motor cycle, or a LSM Unfortantly, I think if the future someone may end up getting hurt on one.. and this is nothing that I have not said to my mom. The E-Bike is fun as hell to ride, and picks up speed quiet well, I am a bigger person and it works great, if you get pulled over you must be abe to produce the peddles for it. I personally Love my moms. I Now see them all over town, I think in due time you will see these taking over.. might be a little slower, but alot cheaper... Like I said, I ride my moms and its fun as hell, expcially on the Island.
