Why are people living in the hospital anyway?

No home for them to live ..Some need dialises ( in our case) so they live there and pay 90% of their income also..and what do they get ...worse then the living at the jail

it is an in and out thing if your able to walk..when your 80 years old and need medical care 24/7 .She need to be in a home but due to her treatments they do not want to tie up an ambulance ever 2nd day. That's why it's called a complex care unit. She pays 90% of her monthy income for this care if you must know.
I haven't been to the new hospital yet, but have heard enough to know that our local medical care is even worse than at the old hospital. I've heard people say "you just DON"T want to get sick" and end up in there. WTF?
You already mentioned the cost without getting snotty. It is after 4:30 you can quite being unpleasant now. I simply wondered why a person would be saddled with living in those conditions. Either give more info when you post or define who can and can't participate. Sorry.

Seems to me that story was written by someone that doesnt know what they are talking about.
Better living in jail? That's ludicrous!! maybe whoever wrote that story should be forced to live in jail for a week so that they know what living in jail is actually like.
maybe you should try living in the NEW hospital for a week so that you would know what living in the NEW hospital is actually like.
True. I waited for hours (I got there at 6pm-left at 1:30am) throwing up in front of strangers. There weren't many people going in. Those that did get in straight away were chidlren with just a cough/cold virus (I could hear the story to the receptionist..that and the children I saw were usually playing with the weight scale or laughing...). I however..while throwing up non stop.. sat next to a guy who needed stitches. Nurses past me by not asking once if I was okay- a volunteer helping at the door did..but she had no power to help. When I got in around 1am the nurse yelled at my boyfriend, saying he got me the wrong medication to help me. (bc he would know?? At least he tried!). I left right after they gave me meds (an hour maybe later). They didn't check to see if I was okay. I had been throwing up nothing but bial from 6pm to 1am...very painful. I lost my voice because of it. Anyhow, that nurse also said a few rude remarks that I can't remember but I was in shock.

WoW...it's amazing how people can have totally different experiences in the same place. I had an accident Sunday night, flipped my 4-wheeler with me on it. Needless to say Hubby got me up there in record time where I was immediatley put in a wheelchair by a volunteer who then went and found someone to get a chart going on me as the one on the front line was already busy. While my chart was getting processed or whatever I was wheeled into a room, questioned extensively while they worked on me. Never once was there any negativity coming from anyone trying to patch me up and put me back together again and explain everything to Hubby at the same time so he could breath.
Needless to say, I look like hell but I'm back together and on the mend. Thanks to all those who helped out the other night, and if you were left waiting too long it's probably because someone worse off then you needed help.

Yikes Xzavia! Glad to hear you are not more badly hurt than you were. That must have been scary!
I've had my fair share of hospital stays. I've had family members and good friends that were in jail and believe me, when you're in jail there is no pretty little button to push when you need assistance for anything. NOBODY COMES RUNNING TO YOU TO FIND OUT WHAT YOU NEED. in hospitals they are there for you, in jail they let you rott in your stinking urine.
I am glad you're okay. I'm also glad you had a good experience. My first stay was a good experience as well. There were no people waiting since it was 2am my first visit. Like I said though..there were children laughing and playing getting rooms in the Emergency area- and then leaving 20 minutes later. They weren't worse off then me or the guy with a bleeding wound..yick.

Mothwoman ..so you figure IF your in the hospital you just have to press a pretty little button ...Come on
give your head a shake ...I`ll tell you about pusing that pretty little button in the hospital and someone comes"running "
My dear friend pushed that pretty little button 20 times and no one came to give this man ...with both legs amputated... a bedpan ...poor soul got SO nervous he was forced to call 911 .....they called the desk to ask the nurse what the hell was going on ...he FINALLY got lifted on the toliet in a matter of mins. Sounds worse than being in Jail to me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a good and bad experience when I had to go to the emergency room. The bad experience was the first part. I was drippng blood all over the floor when I first walked into the ER, there was only one nurse in triage and she was with a patient, she never noticed me walk in...a security guard finally saw me dripping blood everywhere and tried to get the nurses attention but was unsuccessful, finally I just got fed up and interrupted her myself. Then they brought me into one of their little rooms in the ER, they were very thorough at first, but then I was left in a room for 20 minutes without being checked on, even though I was bleeding profusely. Finally a phlebotomist came in to take my blood and saw that I had lost all my color due to blood loss and she screamed for a nurse, they then transferred me to a trauma room. I had to have an operation. In recovery I had an absolutely awesome nurse, he was kind and thorough and made me feel taken care of. When I was transferred to another floor, I had a nurse that was obviously over extended. Whenever I rang the call button it usually took her about 20 minutes to get to me, and she only checked my vitals once when they were supposed to be checked every hour. Now the best experience I had was with my night nurse, he was phenomenal. He obviously enjoyed his job and was very good at it, he made having to stay in the hospital a lot more bearable. All in all, the new hospital has its good and bad points, I think a lot of it has to do with the people you get to deal with when you are there.
While on vacation in Toronto in June I had kidney failure. I had to have a procedure and was put on pain meds then told to come to the Sault and see a surgeon. So that is what I did. This is common for me so I had faith it would be done in a timely manner.
I went to the ER on the fourth day I was back. I spent three nights in the ER. I begged to go home or at least see a surgeon but he was apparently not available. Then I got a room upstairs. Three more days of waiting for the surgeon who then said he was busy and needed to go on vacation so when he came back, he would get around to fixing my problems and doing a couple more surgeries. Meanwhile, I had a different doctor seeing me every 12 hours, I had no idea what was going on and the nurse took it upon herself to take me off Morphine because "it is a terrible drug so we will give you Tylenol". That is when I had my spaz. lol I was either going home (and I was ready to rip the IV out) or I was being treated for pain. I got my way; I got treated for pain and the next morning I was released. Unfortunately I wound up there several more times in the next six weeks. My "day surgery" turned into almot four full days and nights there. That time was not bad. The nurses were awesome but my surgeon wasn't. Then I was in again and big surprise! They forgot about my Latex allergy (which is in big, bold letters on my chart... ALL OVER THE PLACE) how many times?
I need to go to the ER desperately and I am afraid to because I may walk out without a kidney this time. *sigh* They may as well take it out so I don't have to go back there. I may just go to Toronto instead lol.
