    Default Insulation?

We have large crawl space we do not use off of my sons bedroom and its causing a great deal of heat loss. We put caulking around the door to stop drafts but its not helping that much. Any ideas what we can do to stop the cold? His bedroom is cold and im sure its going to get colder and its putting a dent in our bills. The upstairs is much colder than the downstairs. Any ideas or is it just an insulation problem? If it is, is that expensive? We rent and dont want to put too much money into a rental house...

Is the area insulated now? There ought to be at the very least pink fibreglass in place.

we dont know for sure we didnt really go in there but we didnt see any and its fa-reeeeezing in there. So that being said does insulation provide that much on its own? is it costly?

we also have crawl spaces off our stairs going to the upper level that are probably not insulated either and there is a pretty good draft that comes down the stairs...

    That sucks

I once lived in a home where there was one room that was always freezing. Nothing was ever done but you had to dress very warm in there. Hope someone knows for you.

Pink runs about 50, 60 bucks a bag. Putting it up might pose a problem for you unless it is framed. Insulation is the domain of the landlord in any case. We do insulation and advice is free as are quotes but if it were myself I would talk to the home owner and place the onus on him as it should be.

I would like to get someone in to see...can you PM contact info?? we really need some advice. If it were just us we would just bundle up but its the kids rooms that are up there. They have warm jammies and tons of blankets and never seem to be cold when I check on them but I want it fixed before we hit deep winter if possible...she isnt a slum lord so she would probably do something but i want the ball rolling so that she doesnt have an excuse she just needs to open her wallet haha

Edited to add: there is a literal small breeze that comes down the stairs lol and we cant find the source other than the crawl spaces but those are caulked shut too

Anapeg is a pro, as in professional when it comes to insulation. That is what he does for a living. I hope you are implying he will "help you" for a fee, as I don't think he wants to give away his livelihood for free. Anapeg helps a lot of people on this site with different things for free, out of the goodness of his still ticking heart. When it comes to his livelihood, I don't think we should expect that unless HE offers it, .... a guys gotta' eat, ....

Sorry if I stepped on your toes here Mike, but I think its better if the explanation comes from someone else who's been in the same situation. I am sure you will be contacted, .... you're the best!

Anapeg already advertised himself -I think a fee was very well implied. I only see Soundbear's post as a Testimony of sorts-an emphasis on Anapeg so that he's chosen for the job. I know myself, I'm more willing to go to someone when there are others praising their work and calling them pros.

The part where you posted at all. As Larimar said, "Anapeg already advertised himself", and I sure wouldn't have mentioned it if he hadn't.

    AND I wouldn't post a name.

sounds like the old house we moved out of. some of the downtown housed don't have much insulation or older houses in general are not really insulated that much, and they don't always have a vapour barrier or anything really stopping cold from blowing in. the house we were in we had to tape up even the electrical outlets and light switches to keep the cold out and there was a breeze coming in all along the baseboards. we were paying like $600/m in the winter for heat and we were not all that warm. glad i don't have to deal with it anymore, and i'm sorry you do. hope your landlord steps up and does something about it. the fact that it is not already done though, seems off to me.

Souls. They aren't shoes or fish. If they were fish I would have eaten them a long time ago.

His spell check doesn't allow for context or punctuation but it helps him feel superior none the less.
