    Check the rental places.

Sound Bear, a pickle fork will take it out and just tightening the nut will reseat a ball joint or am I wrong?

I suspect it depends on the structure.

I always used a big pry bar, and a helper. Jack the vehicle, loosen the nut, don't take it off, and have a buddy stand on a six foot bar to apply some separating force. Then whack on the side of the knuckle with a BIG hammer. The shock will pop it out.

But, again, depends on the vehicle.

P.S. A pickle fork works, but screws up the rubber. OK if you're replacing the joint.

An update. Just did lower ball joints on a front wheel drive 99 Buick Regal. There's no room for the pry bar and hammer trick, had to buy a pickle fork!!!
