''Our culture has accepted two huge lies: The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear them or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.''
Oh I see your point but what would you suggest? It's not possible to secure the airports but it is possible to control what makes it onto the planes.
A terrorist can walk right into an airport facility with hundreds of people and leave a suitcase behind.
He wouldn't care what makes it onto a plane.

Yes. That doesn't mean they shouldn't check what goes onto the planes.

If everything was checked at a safe distance from the airport and the airplanes, there wouldn't need to be a check to board the aircraft.

Yep, but it doesn't seem to be a realistic option. And even then what would the real difference be? You'd still have thousands of people showing up at one location. Besides proximity to large populations, the other difference from places where they check them out thoroughly prior to arriving at the airport is the sheer volume of flights. There can be as many as 250 flights an hour from the three major airports around NYC. If you tried to check that many people somewhere else and then ensure they had no way to get anything on the way to the airports you would create more issues than you solved I would think.
I think you're onto something there BLR. The US government could set up another agency, operating under the TSA umbrella, which could approve baked goods prior to entering the boarding area of airports. They can call the legislation PABLUM (Pre Approved Baked goods Law Undermining Malcontents), so American travelers don't have to be afraid anymore.
The problem with quotes on the internet is that you can never be certain they're authentic.
