Oh, Hans, you poor thing. We've been through this one before.

This all has to do with how countries measure their aid.

The U.S. does not use one large, lump sum. It gives so much aid through hundreds of different agencies it is impossible to measure it all. Therefore nowhere near the number of what is actually given in aid is reported.

Awwww...Hans thought this was newsworthy! How cute!!

Per capita is per capita. Unless you want to somehow claim the amount of capitals changes pending on how you count them. Good try though, B+

You know what another cool part is? Half of those countries that give aid get more aid from the U.S themselves.

And Hans, the per capita is thrown out the window because all the aid from the US is not figured in.

Awww...it's okay buddy, you didn't know this story had the shelf life of an open jar of mayo on a 105 degree day.

You tried hard...and that's all that counts!

Ofcourse, not all US aid is figured in. They try to keep weapon donations, military training etc... hush hush.

Hans, don't take it so hard.

I mean, it's not like it's the first time...this hour...you've been proven spectacularly wrong.

You just look in that mirror, and tell yourself, "I'm good enough...I'm strong enough...I'm smart enough...and gosh darn it, people like me!!"

Ummm...what does "per capita" have to do with anything when discussing foreign aid?

Your list shows Luxembourg as the top nation in foreign aid. Now think about that for a second.

Right, the smaller the population, the more likely it is you'd be at the top of the list of generous nations "per capita". Look at Han's link. All the countries there are under 60 million people in population ,except the U.S. and Japan, whose populations are 300 million and 125 million, respectively.

So in that sense the U.S. and Japan look VERY, very good even being in the top-twenty of that list, among nations with much smaller populations, thus overly-represented on this list.

In fact, Hans, Canada and Belgium should be ashamed of their standing, with their very low population numbers as compared to the U.S. and Japan.

The fact is, the U.S. provides more foreign aid than the next ten countries combined.

"Per capita figures expressed per 1 population."
I hope that explains it to you, otherwise you might be sol.

Or if it confuses you to much, we could go by GDP.

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/ec...-donor-per-gdp

Belgium : #10 (Still)
Canada : #12 (Still)
USA : #21 (oops, dropped 3 places)

Hans, that means nothing.

The U.S.'s GDP is the largest in the world, and happens to dwarf most the nations on your list. The better the GDP, the more likely it is you won't be on the list.

Again, the fact the U.S. is even on it speaks volumes about how much it gives in foreign aid. No matter how you slice and dice it, the U.S. gives more than almost all of Europe combined.

This isn't rocket science. Keep up.

Great, let's go by totals then!

USA : #4 with 6,900,000,000.00
Canada : #7 with 2,600,000,000.00
Belgium : #13 with 1,072,000,000.00

USA population : 301,139,947
USA GDP : $13.13 trillion

Belgium population : 10,392,226
Belgium GDP : $342.8 billion

So, a country with roughly 300 times less people and 40 times less buying power, still manages to provide 1/7 of the amount the USA provides. Amazing!

Hans, that's just amounts from the US government as an entity. Money from USAID and other such organizations are not counted as part of the overall whole.

I want you to slow down, and breathe...slow down, and breathe...

It's ALRIGHT! It's OKAY!!

You've been, once again, proven wrong. No big deal, it happens ALL the time.

Relax. Have a drink. Munch on a pretzel.

Relax.

Breathe.

Relax.

I understand, as a US citizen you feel ashamed that a Belgian gives way more then yourself.
I mean, you are such a big and powerful country, and you get humbled by a nation so small as Belgium.

But like you said, relax and breathe.
