.... and why not. they are the ones who invested the money into developing then, and now every business want to use them free of charge for their personal use. Most businesses that use them don't understand how they work and actually end up mis-using them and just pi$$ of customers in the process, ..... look no further than Ma Bell to see this.

They invest their money. They are a Crown Corporation and are not using taxpayer's dollars to invest. Under the Canada Post Act, they are not required to return a dividend to the Canadian Government as a Crown Corporation, ...... although out of the goodness of their heart ( and you know I am kidding), they return a dividend of sometimes up to $200 million dollars.
It will simply mean when some other corporation (like Bell, for instance) uses your postal code to determine if you are eligible for their service, they will have to pay Canada Post a user fee for the postal code. Simple business.
