    Default CBC Under Fire

Of all the transgressions and failures the CBC has been accused of -- with renewed vigour since the Conservative government brought down its budget -- there is one indictment the Mother Corp. doesn't deserve. Point fingers all you want at the national broadcaster's bloated bureaucracy, its holier-than-thou intellectualism and slanted politics, but don't blame it for failing to produce entertaining English-language TV. The CBC has nothing -- or at least very little -- to work with on this file. The truth is, Canadians just aren't very good at making compelling TV.

When Japanese tourists come to visit, fascinated by "Anne of Green Gables", obviously all is not bad at the CBC.

The CBC has long been noted for being either very good, or very bad.

And then of course, there's the redneck's favourite, 'Red Green."

I know you usually mock the Huffington Post, but you won't get an argument from me on this. Other than HNIC, I personally don't view any other CBC programming.

RW mocks anybody, not because he disagrees, but just to argue.

Who knows WHAT he really believes about anything at all!!!

Agreed. CBC Radio has quality programing.

T.V.-wise...well, let's face it: even you guys don't like it.

I enjoy CBC Documentary programming; Passionate Eye, Doc Zone for example. Aside from that programming, CBC sucks.

Yup, the docs are pretty good, too.

But I've been listening to CBC Radio quite a bit the last year. Granted, the overt left-leaning nature of the station is a bit much at times; but when they focus on just providing entertaining and informative programming, they do a really nice job.

I wonder how much public funding goes into this to keep it afloat?

CBC dramatic and comedy television programming is like David Hasselhoff... Kind of a punch-line at home but for some strange reason that remains incompehensible, is huge oversees. I have relatives in Scotland that regularly watch Corner Gas, Little Mosque, Degrassi and now Republic of Doyle

That's a very old principle, biblical even.

No one gets much respect at home.

These are OK if you like documentaries with a left lean to them.

Everybody has an agenda and its sure not hard to see what it is at the CBC.

You clearly watch too much American crap to know quality tv when you see it.

Some of the CBC shows perform better than American ones in the ratings.... You got to love that American crap though, there was one sitcom that lasted all but two shows this season, "Working It!" haha quality... CBC on the other hand has had several hits this season... For those who don't watch CBC, give it a try - you might learn something.
