T.J. Maxx coming to Cascade Crossings
Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. —
Work crews are currently in the process of gutting the old Walmart, preparing for renovations designed to bring T.J. Maxx and up to four other businesses to Cascade Crossings.
Paul Taylor of Rycon Construction, Inc. out of Pittsburgh, Pa. — the firm overseeing the large renovation project — confirmed that approximately 116,000 square feet of former retail space will be converted into five different stores. The first phase of the renovation, which began on Monday with demolition of existing walls and ceilings from the former Walmart operation, will dedicate more than 23,000 square feet to the incoming T.J. Maxx store.
“We will divide it into five spaces,” said Taylor, calling it a four-phase project. The Pittsburgh firm is overseeing the entire project, but will utilize local contractors for the vast majority of the work.
While T.J. Maxx has apparently committed to coming to Sault Ste. Marie, the identities of any other interested parties currently remain under wraps. There are a number of rumors regarding potential suitors, but there does not appear to be any other businesses that have formally committed to moving in to the Cascade Crossings structure.
