Ha-ha!! I worked at the docks temporarily years ago unloading a ship. When we came to a shipment of coffins, two guys immediatly quit!!!

Having an unused coffin might be good news. Somebody bought it thinking they would need it and now they don't.

SoundBear a shipment is totally different and understandable.. Just never heard of one of these in or a around a home other then a "funeral home". or in the movies like vampires house's and stuff. I dont know i just find it odd... was hoping somebody could make sense of it.. its just not something usually that is brought home.. and why would somebody buy one of these for your home? IMO

It was just the attitude towards an upholstered box I was referring to.

It might have been as stage prop, planning ahead, no longer needed, or even a great deal somebody got, and now trying to make a profit.

Ha. I know someone who builds coffins, and for a long time he kept a spare one for himself, and used it as his gun locker.. had all his rifles in it and put a padlock on it.

Maybe the family decided to buy a casket instead of renting one for a family member and then had him/her cremated? Other than using a casket for something strange/twisted/decoration, that's the only reason to own a casket that I can come up with.

I think it is illegal to do so, because of the fact that bodies are plugged up with so much stuff to keep them from decomposing, it is likely going to leak into the coffin. But, coffins are a major expense, in addition to all of the other non-essentials they try to pin you with after death.

It's legal to make your own coffin. And embalming is optional.

I know Arthurs funeral home rents caskets for a service before cremation. We did it for my uncle.

Might as well have a licence to print money.
