Well I run 3 businesses and I would like to know where these people think we get ALL these tax breaks...
My vet, a Canadian one... does let me run a bill when we have an emergency as they did the other day, they see me at all hours and on holidays....and I'm very grateful. I haven't had any problems and don't expect to. I see my vet more than I see my own Mother with all the animals I have. I see how hard they work and the crazy hours they keep. I respect them. I have a relationship with them that they know me and know that I'm not going to rip them off or put them in a dangerous situation.
What some don't see is the woman involved didn't feel it necessary to take the dog to a vet initially because she felt she knew enough....really? I think it was because she was too cheap. Any reputable breeder, or even the HS recommend that you take your pet to a vet within a certain time frame for their well-being.
With all of the cheap people and the local drug addicts....hey, did you know vets have pain killers in their dispensary?? They are very capable of sounding like desperate pet owners. If I was a vet, there is no way in hell I would let some stranger come into my office after hours when I have no back up. It may very well be a personal safety issue. But so many think it's just a price gouging problem. Take the emotions out of it and look at it through someone elses eyes, it makes a difference.
But if those people who still don't see it as a personal safety issue, walk late at night by yourself in a druggy neighbourhood. Then see if you would accept any amount of money for your well-being.
There are always good vets and bad vets as there are good people and bad people, but this American vs. Canadian vet argument is ridiculous. There will never be any resolve to this for as long as people have personal preferences.
People who use the internet to stalk or creep are generally useless, boring people. REALLY!!
Again anonymity is great and I do not wish to divulge that here. I don't need to prove to you that i run my own businesses I know I do.

I cross the river....It has nothing to do with the Vets Sucking here. I have heard that they are wonderful. But cost controls my decision
If you want the best seat in the house, move the dog.
i5 2500K at 5.0 Ghz, OCZ Vertex 4 256 GB, Corsair M4 256 GB, 2 x MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr OC, 2 x 4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3, Corsair 600T, Samsung 2443BW, Asus PB278Q 2560x1440
So...let me get this straight. IF I suddenly decided that I wanted to start supporting the Canadian vets and approached them THEY WOULD NOT TAKE ME?
They have to be making a tremendous amount of money to turn down new customers. I guess it is punishment for life if you dare cross the border for pet service.
Interesting point IMHO. They'd probably turn you down for the emergency, but would take you if you went there by appt, and set up a patient file. I think it's the "I need you right now, even tho you're not my vet", kinda thing, that they are hoping to avoid.
Somewhere in a lonely hotel roomthere’s a guy starting to realizeThat eternal fate has turned it's back on himIt's two a.m.
It all comes down to the market and what it will accept. If a Canadian vet charges 3 times as much as an American vet for the same service, but still has a lucrative business, why would they want to cut their prices by 2/3's just to compete. That would mean working three times as hard for the same money. As long as SOMEBODY is willing to pay Canadian prices, things won't change. People are in business to make money and make a living, .... not to give their skills away because YOU feel they should. If you happen to catch a vet who is in a good mood someday and things work out, good for you, .... but respect their right to set their own standards of practice just as you would want to do for yourself when starting any other business, ..... its called free enterprise.
any noise from a piano is music
Let this thread DIE already please!!!!
Lets recap
The vets here are possibly good but definitely expensive. We're all 'bad' people for not caring about our animals and more for our wallets for going across the river. The vets here should care about the well being of animals regardless of their vet history.
This isn't going to change.
Also, for future reference, next time someone gets mad about the vets here, and we start to debate it again on here, the thread will look awfully similar than it does today.
Thanks
Everyting in life is cyclical...this thread shall return.
I am the one who started this thread.....I know it runs the same course but wanted to bring to light that the same issues are still happening, and no doubt another thread will be posted again when the vets here do it again.

I agree with you if we had regular new people join the forum. But it's the same people over and over arguing their same point of view. No one is ever willing to try and make a change. I certainly am not. I'm lazy. Do I think it's right what the vets do, not one bit, but I bring my pets across the ditch just like a lot of people do.
Point is, nothing is going to change despite how many SooToday/Local2/Sault Star write-ups are done on it or how many times we open this issue up for the same debate over and over again. The vets are always going to go through this loop-hole. They may only care about the money, they may not. Really we will never know. Maybe there is an underlying issue, like a vet can get sued for malpractice or something like that. However it wouldn't have happen had he/she known the animal's medical history. Or maybe because it's a regulation they could get a fine or their vet license revoked. Thus the need for a regulation like this. Honestly, I don't know. What I do know is my animals aren't welcome here. Fine, I'm OK with that because Cindy Anderson loves my animals and will crawl herself out of bed to see them on an emergency, and if she's out of town and not available Chris Hall down the road from there (not knowing my animal's medical history) will gladly get out of bed if need be. Does that mean the vets here don't care for animals the same. Maybe yes, maybe no. We will never know. Albeit seems like the former more than the latter all the time.
I just find we debate the same stuff over and over again. Everyone is so close-minded you can literally predict who's going to argue what point or side.
Heck, if it weren't for recycled subjects, there wouldn't be any conversations here at all. Right now the most active threads are, aside from vets, about bears, the midway and first nations people. Looks pretty much like the norm. All we need are for someone to start something about welfare and pizza joints.
Well since you opened that door huggy...Don't forget the new poutinery which will also serve pizza opens this week. May 25th.
