but don't you think it would be better for them to do something positive for people, to gain their favour? i mean why cause trouble for people that have no control over your issues? do they not realize that if it comes down to voting for things that further their agendas people will remember this crap?

If a person is happy with a service, job, deed whatever they tell 3 people but if someone is dissatisfied they will tell 11 people. This is a fact anyone who sells advertising can attest to, surveys have been done. It there fore stands to reason by pissing in your corn flakes you, or at least some of you will complain to your government official. We/they can accomplish nothing through normal channels hence the choice to inconvenience you and yours. The government, YOUR government made deals to secure the land you live on and now choose to renege on those treaties. If all was done as was PROMISED then none of this "crap" would be in the news. You/we elect our government so we/they (Natives) go to you, personally to have your chosen leaders do the "right" thing and adhere to the treaties or just give us back what is rightfully ours. Your choice.

Why couldn't we do things the Canadian Way???
"Canadian policies and legislation since the time of Confederation have served to collectively marginalize First Nations, Inuit and Metis people.
The consequences for First Nation people have been poverty, illness, substandard living conditions, substance abuse issues, high suicide and death rates for some portions of the population"

the government almost never does what they said they would do. I understand what they are mad about, i just don't think their way of trying to force the governments hand is working. is it? maybe time to try something else? i don't see how it would hurt to go about it in a different way, maybe have some kind of awareness day at the pavillion and go out and talk to the public, make friends with them. people stick up for their friends. not so much for someone who goes out of their way to get in your way. i bet if they did things like that instead then they could get the public to rally behind them in support and it would be alot harder for the gov to ignore the issue if they had more people speaking out for their cause. it's just a idea, i think it would work.
also, i won't take responsibility for anything a government signed long before i was here, that really doesn't involve me. i did not vote for whomever was in power at the time the treaties were signed and as far as i know, my ancestors were not here yet at that time so it wasn't them either. i didn't chose to be born here. i am a native to this land also, being that i was born here.
i'm all for everyone getting what is rightfully yours, making good on your word and all but don't drag busy people into your problems at their inconvenience. it's like holding them hostage. you wouldn't want people blocking the roads off, trapping you would you? the only complaining people do is on here and with friends. then you get upset when some people look at natives a certain way, of course you will be looked at as a nuissance if you are causing a nuissance to people. how else are they supposed to look at you? it's the tactics that are the problem. they are not effective and are causing more of a stigma on the community instead of opening the door for compassion and a sense of connectedness. imagine if the natives found a way to reach out to the community in a positive way, how many more supporters do you think they could have, that they are currently driving away?

For once, I agree with 8 mile... the history and treatment of First Nations people in Canada by our government is shameful and a black mark on our society. In addition, many of the comments found on this thread are sickening.
That being said, I disagree with your earlier posting re liberalism in the 60s being the catalyst... you must be referring to Trudeau's "White Paper"... however this started hundreds of years prior.

Fate is just the weight of circumstances.
Could they ever be made happy?
Are we racist to expect an accounting of where the money given to them goes?
Did marching on David O's office accomplish even one miniscule thing?
Is irritating the public with roadblocks the way to go ?
Do the native poeple ever take responsibility for what happens on reserves?
I do not know the answers but I see no resolve until there is a little "give" on the part of natives.
"...how many more supporters do you think they could have, that they are currently driving away?"
None. The native community is well aware of just how they are thought of.
Harassing the public puts pressure on the government to do something.

apparently if you question ANYTHING pertaining to first nations ....you are a RACIST..ask me lol
the social cuts did affect a lot of ontarians (non-native ) too...i guess we should rally it up for outrageous electric bills, smart(idiot) meters...etc etc etc etc... hey why not...if we cry enough maybe something will happen. probably go to jail lolo

a comment like this, which has nothing to do with this discussion, is exactly why FN people will continue to protest...
and if exercising their right to peaceful demonstration pisses off idiots like you, that's fantastic!!!
