I don't understand what would possess someone to bring their dog with them on a shopping expedition to the mall, especially if they were going to be in the mall for a long time. The poor dog was left in a hot vehicle, with the windows all the way up. And even when they got back to the vehicle, they didn't crack the window. They had an infant with them, so we should be thankful that they didn't leave the baby behind too...

The humane society and mall security were involved. I hope that they were charged with something, but I am sure that they weren't.

There is a special place for people like this.

While I wholeheartedly agree that dogs should not be left in a vehicle for a long time, I also think that some people should ensure that they know all the facts before making abuse accusations.

We were coming home from Southern Ontario once in October and stopped at the mall in Saginaw. We left our dog in the car; windows a little open, while we ran in to the mall. We were aware of timing and weather conditions and knew we'd only be there for a short time. Our dog was unattended, sleeping, for all of 20 minutes.

We got back to the car and found a scathing note under our wiper; scolding us for leaving the dog in the car.

We are responsible pet owners. Until they allow pets in stores, even responsible pet owners will sometimes find themselves in situations where they may need to leave an animal in a car for a short time. And unless spectators have observed the animal for a long time and know for sure that abuse is occurring, they should butt out!

My facts are straight on this one....

your circumstances were clearly different since you were travelling. This poor dog was left for more than an hour. No windows cracked. And even when they got to the vehicle, they still didn't crack a window. I watched with my own eyes. People like that shouldn't be allowed to have animals. This dog was barking and obviously upset.

I also doubt that any charges were laid. Wish the dog was taken away and placed with someone that would actually care for it.

The elderly, handicapped or very young are still people and, though there may be challenges involved, they are not disallowed from malls like dogs are. Unless someone has the mental capacity to care for themselves and wish to do so, no person should be left in a car for any length of time.

I'd be the first one to object.

But that's a completely different subject. Again, dogs are not allowed in malls; people are.

Never said that. All I suggested was that people are certain that the dog has been locked up in unhealthy conditions for a long time before they attack people. Don't assume that all dog owners act irresponsibly!

And I never suggested that you weren't sure of your decision either. If I knew an animal was confined to a sealed, hot car for a long time, I'd have done the same thing you did.

Even 15 minutes in a car with the windows closed in the sun can raise the heat in the car by up to 80 degrees in half an hour. ( I couldnt paste the link, cause Im on my tablet.)

And I'm not going to argue that Mao3! I stated it was October. It was cool and cloudy. If the wife needs to go into a store when we have the dog with us and conditions are hot, I stay outside with her. Again, I am a responsible pet owner. My point is that people should know the facts before making accusations of abuse.
