Default Staunch Protestant woman, 71, investigated for care home abuse

Social workers and police are investigating claims of abuse at a children's home in the Bible belt region of Staphorst, regional paper De Stentor reports on Friday.

One woman who worked at the De Loot children's home in Nieuwleusen is accused of physically and mentally abusing several children between 1984 and 2010. There are also indications some children may have been sexual abused, the paper says.

Two family members have made formal complaints about the woman, who is said to have beaten children with sticks, tied them to chairs and made them sleep in corridors as a punishment.

''Our culture has accepted two huge lies: The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear them or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.''

1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. -St. Paul

Sorry, I cannot claim credit for the teaching that the church should not forbid marriage.
The heart of the human problem is the problem of the human heart.
