Default Don't want to go to Mexico?

So I have heard soooo many people saying they won't go to Mexico because of how "dangerous" it is. My parents have been 5 times and have never had an issue. My In-Laws refuse to go because the hotel they once looked at going to is where the one woman was killed in the elevator....However what was she doing naked in the elevator in the first place....Anyways think about it just in the past week or so.

1)Shooting in food court at Eaton centre.....one dead several hurt.
2)Shooting at a cafe in in the little italy area of toronto over a soccer game between italy and ireland
3)Now an elementary school is on lockdown in ottawa because of suspicious package
4)Magnotta murder that happened two weeks ago

Not to mention how many other things going on in just our community and people are really afraid to go to mexico are they kidding me?

My brother-in-law thought we were crazy to go to Jamaica to get married because there is a huge murder rate for the size of the country. We had an incredible time, and found the people we encountered to be the friendliest, happiest people I think I've encountered. It must be the legalized marijuana.

All but one of those examples involved people who knew each other, not strangers.

I would be nervous of going to Mexico, and getting caught in the drug war crossfire. However, one of my bffs has lived in Mexico for 15 years now, without experiencing any violence. Like anywhere else, you could end up a victim, or have a great time.

I have no problem going to Mexico but to compare the murders in the Sault and Canada to that of the drug wars in Mexico is absurd. The drug wars are why people have reservations about going there. The parts of Mexico where people vacation to have no more chance of random violence than anywhere else I presume.

"Mexican officials said Wednesday almost 13,000 people died in drug violence in the first nine months of 2011, pushing the toll since the start of a five-year military crackdown above 47,000."

"Forty-nine decapitated and mutilated bodies were found on Sunday dumped on a highway connecting the northern Mexican metropolis of Monterrey to the US border, in the latest suspected outburst in an escalating war among drug gangs."

I love Mexico, of course we only have been to the Mayan, but i loved it. Talked about going back this winter but came up with another destination instead.
