Nice to see this covered in the news... Would have gone if I had known
Today was Aboriginal Day. There were a ton of things going on this afternoon at the canal to celebrate. This evening, there was a small Pow-Wow on Whitefish Island, which concluded with the fireworks that you heard. We had a great time there both this afternoon and this evening.

It is to celebrate the 50 years of the bridge...many events happening in the next week that has to do with it.

no, it was for aboriginal day. the fireworks were provided by Batchewana First Nations. I was there with my 10 month old all day and we had so much fun. free fish sampling... free fruit... a nice choice of vendors. lots of activities for the kids. and pretty damn good fireworks.
I thought the Americans where celebrating the 200th anniversary of there failed invasion of Canada in 1812.
The Aboriginal Day Fireworks where on the scale of Canada Day, I had a good view of them.
The billboard on the bridge said the 50th anniversary of the bridge fireworks. The automatic sign at LAke state that faces the bridge and posts announcements said it. I sat there for an hour yesterday waiting to get across. Maybe yesterday was for aboriginal day and today is for the bridge who knows I do know there were lots of events posted for all week.

I was there last night. The fireworks were for the Aboriginal Day celebrations. I believe another member said that they were there as well for the same thing. It had nothing to do with the bridge.
Here is the information about the bridge lighting and fireworks: http://www.saultbridge.com/

Bridge Lighting & Fireworks Event! Thursday June 28, 2012!
Red and white industrial rope light strands will grace the Canadian arch portion of the bridge, while red, white, and blue strands will grace the U.S. double-arch portion of the bridge. These strands will be lit in a community celebration at dusk on Thursday, June 28.
The primary celebration site will be the Roberta Bondar Pavilion in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, starting at 8:30pm. A secondary celebration site will be the Sault Locks viewing area in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
The public announcements, dignitary comments, and festivities leading up to and including the sequenced lighting of the rope light strands by the eight Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority board members will be broadcast live from the pavilion on radio station WSOO at about 9:45 p.m.
At dusk (approximately 10:30pm), immediately after the lighting ceremony, there will be a bi-national fireworks display clearly visible from both Sault’s.
I don't think I was actually wrong if you read all of what I said I did say maybe it was for aboriginal day.....I was just sharing what I could remember from the board on the bridge as I sat there waiting. I couldn't remember the actual date but remembered it was soon. Also thinking it was close to canada day and independance day so thinking there was going to be a lot of fireworks within a couple weeks. But if it makes you feel better to point out I made a mistake go for it....I have no problem admitting when I was wrong.
Thanks bigdaddy for posting that info.

Your first post made a definitive statement that it was for the bridge. You conceded possible defeat in your second post, after you were told you were incorrect. It's ok to be wrong sometimes.![]()
