I need to clarify that the communication MUST happen beforehand. It could be the specific request of the one affected, or by their statements and their handling of another similar situation, or comments they casually made about the struggles of someone else. You would have a pretty good idea of how that person would want to be treated, and at what point they would wish to die.

I agree about the logic, but it is something that needs to be thought about ahead of time.

    Could be worse.

Ever heard the term, "saved by the bell" Boxing, you thought.

"A safety coffin or security coffin is a coffin fitted with a mechanism to prevent premature burial or allow the occupant to signal that he/ she has been buried alive. A large number of designs for safety coffins were patented during the 18th and 19th centuries and variations on the idea are still available today"

This is true, but it certainly discounts the "letting nature take it's toll" nature can let people suffer for a pretty long time, and at the same time, medical technology has been shown to out last nature and allow people to live very happy, and healthy lives.

Sorry, DQ, but this is all a lot less than academic to me at this point.

    See ya.
