Default hEALTH INSURANCE AND VISITING THE USA

As I age, I know that it is not a good idea to enter the USA for a visit without additional health insurance coverage. We have all heard horror stories about the tremendous amount of money hospitals charge out of country patients over there. My question is this: Has anyone found a company in Canada that offers reasonable rates for this kind of coverage? Is it possible to get ongoing coverage or do you have to buy coverage each time we make a trip over? What kind of costs are involved to get adequate coverage?

Talk to your auto insurance broker.

I was driving through Michigan to get to London and the extra coverage was only about $5 for that round trip. That was a few years ago mind you and it wasn't an extended stay, but it's worth checking in to.

I buy coverage through my credit card (American Express). I think it is $140 for 2 of us per year. Covers us on all the short shopping excursions as well as any trips up to 7 days in duration. For trips more than 7 days I need to buy additional (not expensive) coverage. I think most major credit card sell travel insurance.

When i travelled to florida i bought insurance through coverme.com My parents have the scotiabank gold card that provides medical travel insurance I think it is a $90 fee for the year and it covers the family and or anyone that the card is used to book the trip for. I don't remember all the details. I found coverme.com very reasonable.
