For over a century, the United Church of Canada has taken stands against injustice and the “evils” in society–from child poverty to homelessness. Now, Canada’s biggest protestant denomination has a new target in its sights: gossip.

This week, senior officials from the church gathered in Ottawa for its General Council to vote on resolutions that will provide guidance for the church’s nearly 3 million-strong congregation.

Among the resolutions, passed late Wednesday, was a bid to stamp out the spreading of gossip.
