Chanetelle 7 give HR a call and ask them. ballstothewall , can't get hired? Don't take this the wrong way but it's really nobody's business. I hate how people think they need to know other people's business.

Have you ever worked in there? Or are you a "wanna be" but can't. I would love to see you do 4 hrs. of what my husband does, and has for years. He has done his job for 12 hrs. each day that he works. You want to make it sound like a cake walk? You are one piece of work.....Cause, "you know not what you speak"!

My dad worked in there for 30 years, he worked the coke ovens the hot, nasty, smelly, dirty place, many have had cancer who worked in there I don't believe it is a coincidence, he count the hours until his retirement, yeah some jobs "may" be a cake walk but not all and really for working in that environment cake walk or not they deserve every penny.

my dad said when he was first hired there was like 12 people sitting around the table who got hired and they asked theguys where in the steel plant they wanted to work. My dad was the only one willing to go to the coke ovens. Well after all the years and all the layoffs my dad was the only one still employed when he had retired the rest had been layed off, quit or was fired. My dad also saw many of his co workers get diagnosed with cancer. My dad counted the days till retirement and was actually had it into hours. He retired and is working part time with full time hours elsewhere at a job he absolutely loves.but as he says it paid the bills put us threw school and provided for the family but definately not a nice or easy job.

Thanks for the responses. My husband had an interview there and we just wanted to know how much different his starting wage at Essar may be from what he is making now where he is working.

How very true that is..........my friends hubby worked there. First he had prostrate cancer and had radiation. When he got out of the hospital, they said he was clear of cancer. He spent the summer at camp but started coughing so they diagnosed him with lung cancer. So much for all the years in the coke ovens

If they don't, they can pay a hefty price working in this type of industry.

My dads best friend died of lung cancer also worked in the steel plant, apparently a section of the plant that had asbestos.
