Just wait until winter, when everyone tries to find a clear spot to put them, and the truck tries to get in close to lift them, and then put all the snowplow activity in between those events. Should be a real hoot!

Dragging my full bin through my gravel driveway to the curb was a barrel of laughs. Now that my gravel driveway is also full of snow? Not going to happen. My husband has a bad back and I have a shoulder injury that I've been trying to heal for well over a year. Either we go back to the old bins or we don't recycle for the winter.

I did find it rather hard to push that big cart full of recycling material to the end of the driveway with the minimal amount of snow on the ground.

I am seriously wondering, why we cannot use our blue and yellow boxes for the winter. Is there a "rule" that says that we cannot? Seriously.

If you do try using the old bins they probably won't get emptied. That'd mean you expect the driver to get out of the truck and manually empty them. Now all he has to do is sit/stand there and use a controller while watching on a camera to grab the new one and empty it. It's all about safety in the workplace and cutting down on employee injuries, nevermind that the resident may have physial issues that prevent them hauling them out there.

I have seen a few instances where people have set the old recycle boxes out for pickup, in one case for two consecutive weeks and they were not picked up.

I love the new big bins, since the person does not get out of the truck anymore you can put anything in it, like old tires ,car batteries, containers of used motor oil and propane tanks that were once a pain to get rid of.

Yeah, but then you can't see where the bin is going. I prefer not to scratch the side of my vehicle with a recycling bin.

Yeah. I'm proud of him too. Just the box was not full and I also didn't see a snowflake anywhere nearby. Hmmmm.

out here in Fort Mac we have been using the big bins for years and they don't seem to have any problem with them, however you cannot put glass out as they are afraid of the worker getting cut with broken glass, we have three bins...black for garbage, blue for plastic and yellow for paper. We actually put them on the street at the end of our driveways. However they do not plow the side streets here. They only plow the main roads and once or twice a year they come in and scrape the side streets. We are given a few weeks notice when they are doing it. For glass recycling you have to bring it to the depot yourself.

On Church street...the driver gets out of his truck for every box. He actually takes a peek inside the box before he lines it up to the lift apparatus .It seems like a step backwards and why is he not staying in his truck like he does on other streets? he has to keep climbing in and out of the truck and that takes time.
