Anyway, just curious what everybody thinks about flu shots.

I've got one every year the past seven years except last year Last year I had the worst case of the flu, it had me bed-ridden for 36 hours. I hadn't been that sick since having the flu as a kid.
All the years I did get the shot, no flu.
And I say this as someone who was very skeptical about it, and had to be coaxed by a few colleagues to get it.
The one exclusive sign of thorough knowledge is the power of teaching.
9 YEARS...GOT THE SHOT..no flu. Previous to that flu every year. I THINK IT IS TOO LATE TO GET ONE FOR THIS YEAR.
I don't get it. I don't believe in them.
Or, I shouldn't say I don't believe in them, but I don't know how we, as a human race, are going to fight bugs off if we always have the help of medicine.
Don't get me wrong, I am not against medication or vaccinations.
But, as an example, I took both my kids to the hospital today. They've both been sick for almost a week. The baby (eight months) has had a couple colds, but nothing like this. This morning he had blood in his ear like he had scratched it too hard.
Anyway... the four year old is fine (which I figured, but I figured if I was there, there was no harm in having them both looked at). The baby has an ear infection in both ears. He was given a prescription for amoxicillin (which I realize I have no idea how to spell - I had to look it up.)
The pharmacist said it is a higher dosage than usual because the antibiotics aren't working like they used to, so they have to give stronger doses.
So... that, to me, just reinforces what I am thinking. What happens when these antibiotics and flu shots don't work anymore? All the people that get them ALL the time... Won't their bodies be relying on these and then what?
Again, I'm not against antibiotics or vaccinations, but sometimes I think people are too quick to rely on them instead of fighting it off themselves.
I know people who seem to get a prescription every time they go to the doctor - even for a cold.
When I go, I get nothing. And when I actually needed a prescription, I couldn't have it anyway because penicillin was the only one they wanted to give me because I was pregnant and I'm allergic to it.
One of my best friends looks down on me because I didn't give my kids the flu shot.
I think I've only had the flu once.
I seriously think that usually when people have the flu, they have a cold.
I don't mean that to say people don't get the flu. But I see people with the sniffles and they're like 'I have the flu.'
I thought, like you said, that the flu usually knocks you on your ass.

I think people who are susceptible to the flu should get it.
The shot, I mean.

maybe you should consider taking a probiotic to help your immune system during a bad flu season?
I have had the flu shot twice. Years ago. I did get the h1N1 flu about four years ago. That was bad. The flu is more than a little cold with the sniffles. It makes some people really sick. High fever, aches and pains, chest congestion, and it hits you fast. Usually when you get the flu you are in bed a couple days or should be.
The less you respond to rude, critical, argumentative people, the more peaceful your life will become. ~ Mandy Hale
We get ours religiously and knock on wood, healthy as a team of horses. Conversely there is no "cold" shot and I get no colds either. Take from that what you may.
The aim of argument, or of discussion, should not be victory, but progress.

I had the H1N1 shot when I was pregnant with my first. I didn't want it, though. I just got tired of people harassing me about it.
I get colds. I used to get A LOT of colds, but I don't get as many now.

I also got a pneumonia shot too...its a lifetime shot.
No.
Never have.
Never will.
My apologies if defending seems defensive!!
I just don't like the idea of it.
I wonder what's going to happen 100 years from now.
Penicillin was introduced in 1928 - less than 100 years ago. Bacteria is already becoming resistant to it...
I wonder if the same thing will happen with the flu shot.
