    Default Going for Gold

Canada will have to play for bronze at the world under-18 hockey championship.

David Kase scored at 6:17 of overtime to give the Czech Republic a 4-3 semifinal win over Canada on Saturday. Kase converted a turnover in the Canadian zone to move the Czechs into the tournament final against the United States on Sunday.

The Americans advanced with a 4-1 semifinal victory over Sweden.

It was a familiar scene at the U18 World Championships on Sunday when team USA took to the ice for the gold medal battle, however their opponent was not their usual foe. Instead of the red and white Canada jersey’s skating opposite, the Americans had a date with the Czech Republic. Team USA soundly defeated the Czech with a 5-2 victory to claim their 5th gold medal at the tournament in the last 5 years.
