    Default Pigeon Attack

We have several bird feeders and really enjoy the many visitors we get...they are a source of enjoyment. The one problem we have is PIGEONS...they make a mess...attack the feeders to knock the seeds to the ground...poop everywhere etc. We have tried placing one of those plastic, realistic looking owls near the feeders but the pigeons are not deterred. Anyone else have this problem and have you found a solution?(other than do not feed the birds).

We used a pellet pistol that shot plastic pellets and another that did not harm the birds and went on a campaign to have nesting sites in the neighbourhood closed and sealed. No more pigeons. Be careful to make body shots only and watch you do not take out an eye and disable the bird.

The plastic pellets have little effect unless quite close but the metal ones with a less powerful pistol does the trick. Keeps them nervous and jerky.

If this be the case you may wish to rethink the calibre of weaponry.

a friend of ours had the same problem. She bought a large metal dog crate that pigeons can't fit through,( but birds can) and you put the bird feeder inside it. You just open the cage door to fill up the food. They have their feeder/cage on a table in the yard. You might have to modify the cage if you have the feeder on a pole. (cut a hole in the bottom, etc)
