If you don't have all the different cables check and see if you have a button on your monitor to change the input source (DVI, VGA, HDMI). I did that one day had me in a little panic until I switched to a hdmi cable and realized what the problem was, there was a button beside the power button to switch the input source and I had inadvertently pressed it.
One can be a true believer in anything: psychic ability, Christianity or, as Bertrand Russell classically suggested (with irony), in the fact there is a teapot orbiting the earth.
