The dismantling of the Trump Ascendancy begins in a few weeks. Republicans will suffer significant losses in both the House and the Senate. This on its own will not be a huge surprise; the sitting president's party generally loses seats in the mid-term election.

But this will cause Trump to become even more-unhinged, and say even worse things. His ego won't be able to take the beating.

He isn't winning re-election. He'll do better than many of his critics will predict, but he won't win. For a Republican to win the presidency they need help from Independents and "Reagan Democrats" (Dems who are centrist enough to support a Republican if they agree with their economic (and to a lesser extent, foreign) policies.

He had that support in 2016. He won't have that in 2020.

There's been a few stories circulating that he's leaning towards not running again. But I can't see that happening. The guy has a massive ego that can only be appeased by being the most powerful politician on earth. He isn't going to give that up on his own accord.

Maybe Melania is asking him not to run, I don't think she's happy in the 24/7 spotlight. But would he listen to her? I mean, he screwed a porn star while married to her. I'm afraid she's mere arm candy for him. She knows it, but the billion dollar bank accounts are just too much to give up.

The bloodbath did not occur. Good night for Dems, but nowhere near the "Blue Tidal Wave" some had promised.

If this is the best the Dems can do, against a president they tell us is reviled and hated, then I really question the strength of the Democrat Party at this point. They seem a disorganized hodgepodge of varied interests, with no clear goal.

Trump both lost and won last night. Interesting night, politically-speaking. Makes 2020 all the more intriguing.

I don't like Trump as President but sometimes he is just fun to watch. I understand the importance of the media but his handling of Jim Acosta today was great. The press doesn't actually do their job. They just provoke hoping for a gotcha moment or a nice soundbite that can go viral.

Agreed, Cat. Trump is his own worst enemy. He won't win re-election because of his big mouth. But damn, the way he takes on the biased media is great!



After CNN’s Jim Acosta pressed him on why he characterized a caravan of a few thousand Central American asylum seekers hundreds of miles from the US border “an invasion,” the president erupted.

“Honestly I think you should let me run the country, you run CNN and if you did it well, your ratings would be much higher,” Trump said, adding “That’s enough. That’s enough. That’s enough. Excuse me, that’s enough,” as Acosta tried to follow up.

But the CNN anchor persisted, asking the president about special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.

“That’s enough. Put down the mike. I’ll tell you what, CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn’t be working for CNN. You’re a very rude person. The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible. You shouldn’t treat people that way,” he said, referring to his spokeswoman, who frequently spars with reporters during press briefings.

When NBC’s Peter Alexander defended Acosta, Trump replied: “I’m not a big fan of yours. Just sit down, please.”
