    Default Sound Driver

Have had a problem for a while now,, my sound driver keeps getting kicked from the system and when i try to access the sound it says mixer device not installed, usually preced by a win 32 system error, doesnt seem to matter whether it is pci sound or onboard,,im assuming its a conflict of some sort yet the system shows no conflicts,,or perhaps another irq is interrupting it,, question,,is there a way to lock this driver in,,or some other suggestion?

Did you check to see if anything else is running on the same IRQ?

It could also be a driver issue.

    Try a different PCI slot.

Just reading your first post again it maybe that you have a corruted windows OS file or a driver issue. I would lean more towards a windows file or the sound driver is courrupted.

If you tried every PCI slot and still have the samething happening then it is not a IRQ issue. Cause the only thing that would share the IRQ normally is the a separate Nic card or Video card.

Did you try if you have a separate NIC card take it out and try that slot.

Usually a lot of mobo's like using the last PCI slot for a sound card and the top PCI slot for a NIC card.

Worse case scenario it could be a motherboard issue.

You can manually do so, but i forget on how to do so this very minute.

The only other option was to try different PCI slots all of them if you have something installed in a PCI slot take it out and try the sound card in it.

USB host controller can affect the sound card driver as if you have to many USB products installed (something has to give) and usually it is another product that is different on the same IRQ.

How old is your OS install?

Well the os is fairly new,,but it came from a crack disk rather than a legit version,,ive never had this problem till recently(last few months)
Ive tried all the available pci slots and still to no avail,, think im going to redo the system install and add the peripheral stuff one at a time and monitor it and see what happens,, thanks for youre advice and time MadMax,,if you get a chance pm me with the price youre looking for for one of the vid cards you have,, Thanks again Steve

    Cards are sold.

But yes do a clean install and go one at a time and drivers too, see if anything conflicts i doubt it as i bet it is a OS issue or driver corruption issue.

It never hurts to have a legit OS clean istall.
