I like that program, specially the resident protection.

Any thoughts on Spybot vs. Adaware?

I use Adaware and have never had any problems.

I run both on my machine. I've seen allot PC's badly infected with crap and after scanning with both programs, they each find things that the other doesn't. They're both excellent IMO.

The best anti-spyware solution is common sense. If you see that ad saying that you are the 999,999,999,999th vistor to the site and have won a free laptop......dont click on it!!!

Spybot has a little sister program that runs with it called Tea-timer, and it does not allow registry changes unless you allow them!

There for you CAN not get spyware unless you allow it yourself!

Canadian13, sorry m'dear but you get that Ad, then you have Spyware/Adware.

not necessarily. There are many types of ads. There are ads generated by your computer, and then ads generated by websites. The ad I was speaking of is generated by the website and for the most part, embeded into the webpage. Most website makers who support these ads have figured out that almost everyone has a popup blocker so they embed the ads into the webpage script to bypass the blocker. Once the ad is seen, the server drops a cookie, a small text file that contains password information for a saved login or traces of what images you have seen. This tells the server that you have seen a particular ad and chances are you will see a different ad that might grab your attention.

Now I will concede that if you recieve popups while not on the internet then yes you do have malware on the computer.

Adblock plus for Firefox takes care off most of those banners. I don't see the Soonet banners anymore ever since I installed it.
