Because it cost a whack of money to build a hydro plant, and the best sites are long gone.

With superior dropping as much as it does. The cost to run a hydro plant compared to a nuclear plant, it makes most sense for a nuclear plant.
Nuclear is safe and clean. If handled well. Water too can be just as dangerous, ie. Tsunami.

Plus there are all the problems associated with creating the dammed backwaters such as environmental impact, property rights and the huge release of greenhouse gases as the inundated organic material decomposes under the new "lake".
How 'bout they start shutting off some of those millions of lights left on all night in southern Ontario office towers, and then we won't NEED a nuke plant up here.

I've often wondered about statements like that.
Certainly there would be a release of so-called "greenhouse gases", but all that stuff would eventually rot anyway.
And imagine if you will getting in a plane and taking off from that lake. and flying higher and higher. Unless it was the size of Lake Superior, it's size will quickly become insignificant compared to the extent of even our area of Northern Ontario.
