"A UN envoy visiting Vancouver says the truth about the homeless in Canada is disturbing.
Miloon Kothari is on a two-week trip through Canada, examining the state of homelessness in the country.
Kothari says despite statistics showing poverty is decreasing, he is seeing the opposite trend, so far.
He is in Vancouver today visiting the Downtown Eastside, often referred to as the poorest postal code in the country.
Kothari says the problem of homelessness is growing, worldwide, fueled by the rising cost of housing and a lack of transition programs to get people off the street and into their own homes.
Kothari will present a report on his observations to the federal government next week."
