Default HOSPITAL WARNING

Keep a very close eye on your loved ones at the hospital. Get information and ask questions.
Watch for things that don't seem right to you and then PURSUE THEM!
Don't lose someone because of complacency or general disregard for human life.
It happens at our SAH........
I know!

Well, seeing as so many people post about their experiences at the hospital here, I will post mine. I have had knee surgery twice in the last 2 1/2 months. BOTH times I was treated with top-notch care. BOTH times I was treated with pleasant, respectful and helpful nurses. I was asked over and over if I needed anything, if I needed something to drink, if I was warm enough, how the pain was, etc.

BTW I am not, nor do I have any family member in the health care industry. It just seems that hospital care in this city is often getting painted with a brush so wide that it is unfair. During my time in the recovery room 2 surgeries ago, there was a patient there that was being rediculous to the nurses, an absolute ####. I didn't get in that room part way through his time there and miss something because I was there before him and this was his first dealings with those nurses specifically. It goes both ways.

different parts of the hospitla are 100% different to another, it really depends on where you are when it comes to the quality of care you get there and how nice the nurses are etc.. some parts of the hospital are completly rediculous and some of the nurses act like they are taking care of stray animals that noone cares about

There are quite a few wonderful nurses. It is unfortunate that the not so good ones give them a bad rap.

This???
I am not merely a mass of molecules, incoherently careening through time and space. I am a child of God, destined for another world, a world before which this one pales in significance. Our spiritual preparation for the next world is to be the priority of this life.

My Dad lives in a retirement home, a lady that also lived there that was a very good friend called the ambulance because she had chest pain one night a couple of months ago. They came and got her, she ended up having to go in to the O.R. to have a pace maker put in, while they were at it they punctured one of her lungs and she died two days later due to complications.
Gives me lot's of faith in our medical care alright..

I also salute the care, patience and attention both my parents received from the staff of 200Y and 300Y. They have a demanding job and I know they did the best they could under the horrific circumstances they work under. My mom was also in ICU and the staff there should have halos and wings! BTW....food wasn't that bad either....

Well, I have had both sides!! I hate er, sometimes the nurses can be *****y but in all honesty they are dealing with alot of crap on there plate!! soooooo I have come to realization that if I have to go there for anything excpect the worse! and now most times I sit there and listen to people [censored] and complain, well You know what they just make things worse!!!

My son had namoina (sp) 2 months ago and was hospitalized for it!! and kept in quarantine(sp) I will say I cannot say thank you to the er staff on that night and the staff in ped's For the whole 3 days we were they they made us comfortable, never once complained who was in to see him, brought him movies, come into play with him and visit!! IT WAS exceptional care!! and I sent thank you cards to the er staff as well as the peds staff cause it was the least I could do!! 3 nurses (as hes 2 and figured hed need some apprehension) come in to give my little guy iv and they said he did not cry nothing, so they left the room come back in 5 mins later with a new little teddy bear for him cause he was such a good boy!!! yes the food sucked but thats life!! but the care was AWSOME bar none the best I have ever had!!!!!!!

which after my last post would bring me to this!! I would not have my 3rd child hence things were done right!! but in all honesty IM glade I have him, hes a mircale!!! My 3rd child is result of failed tubal, and 2 clamps each side he got through! soooooo I know all about mess ups, I went down there when I discovered I was prego and the nurse at the front told me it does not happen in our city and argued with me, I had the pregnacie test with me to show her she told me I was crazy and had a friend that was prego pee on it!! just so happed er dr heard this after I started to yell at this nurse he pulled me in, sat me down, drew blood work to find out 45 mis later it was in fact me that was prego! then 2 hrs later to find out it was utero! soooooooo I have seen both sides of health care!! but come to realize like I said the more you [censored] the worse it seems!!!! My dad passed away of miss diagnosis if that says enough in another city!!! soooooooooo Unfortantly its life and we all have to face it!!!

IMO...the way nurses and Doctor's talk to people has a lot to do with the way "you" treat them.

They've got a demanding job, look around..if they look like they are running around crazy, a little patience and compassion goes a long way..I've learned this personally. If you've had "bad service" so to speak, then go to their superiors and do something about it so others don't suffer the same fate.

That may be true in some cases but it's a well known fact that many of them are miserable and have a terrible bedside manner.
Complaining would only get you worse treatment on your next visit.

I have had four surgeries, my son and daughter were in NICU for a week, my mother has been in the hospital, grandparents, etc and only remember 4 nurses that were not good out of dozens of nurses I have had contact with. That's pretty good.
